Freshen up your home

Freshen up your home

Decluttering and deep cleaning your home can do wonders for your mental and physical health, and Spring isn’t the only time for clearing stagnant energy!

Every few months, you should make a point to declutter and clean, to bring new energy into your space. We guarantee you’ll feel more active, refreshed and clear headed. Here are our 5 tips for creating a lighter energy in your home.

1. Declutter and clean the kitchen

The kitchen is the most used room in a home, and is strongly connected with your health and wellbeing. Remove the items from your pantry, cupboards, fridge and freezer and do a stocktake. Discard any suspect looking food, items past their use by date and note any food that is coming up to its best before date. Clean the refrigerator and shelves and return food.

Clean out any other shelves and drawers, cutlery drawers especially as they can be chock full of clutter. Clean all the surfaces, appliances, and pots and pans. Only use natural cleaners, avoid harsh chemicals.

2. Declutter and clean bedroom and bathroom

An accumulation of dust, empty product bottles and general mess in bedrooms and bathrooms can block your energy flow. Get rid of any products you haven’t used in the last six months and clothes you haven’t worn in the past year. Feng shui experts say if you want a new relationship you have to clear a physical space for them, this means clearing your closet!

If you want to feel more active bring your workout gear to the fore of your closet and make a plan to go shopping for new clothes with brighter colours.

Clean all surfaces. Strip the bed, vacuum the topper and replace with fresh bedding. Remember to clean out any junk from under your bed and vacuum - dust creates stagnated energy.

3. Declutter and clean the lounge

Your lounge should be an inviting haven, a place you can relax and unwind from the rigours of the day. Clear out the clutter, so you have a free floor space. Then dust surfaces, tables, lamps, TV and knickknacks. Vacuum floors and couch crevices, wash slipcovers and cushion covers. Freshen up couch cushions by giving them a whack outside. Clean, dust and reorder bookcase, taking out extra books if its overflowing.

4. Wash windows

Dirty windows can give you a narrow, blinkered view on life. In order to see things clearly you need to wash them inside and out so they’re sparkling clean. Dust and grime can accumulate in curtains and blinds, so take these down and clean, or get in a professional cleaner to do a thorough job.

5. Bring greenery indoors

Add a pot plant in the bathroom or lounge, and herbs in the kitchen - green plants can refresh the energy of your space and are a symbol of new beginnings. They’re air purifiers too, helping to detoxify the air you breathe. The front entrance of your home is also a good place to focus on adding plants, this is an area strongly connected to your health.
